Dogs and Cats can safely be spayed/neutered at 4 months of age. Your puppy or kitten can become a mom at 6 months old. If your pet is 8 years old or older, you will need a wellness blood panel done prior to surgery by your vet.
Our program is manned by volunteers that devote their time, talents and resources to try to make a difference in the number of unwanted and euthanized dogs and cats. This past year HSLC Spay/Neuter has spayed/neutered a total of 719 animals, far short of the 960 we are able to handle yearly. As you are all probably aware, Lincoln County has become the first county in North Carolina to adopt the "philosophy" of a no kill shelter. We are pleased with the new direction the county and some residents are working toward. Please understand that many hurdles must still be crossed before this will become a reality. Until then, Spay/ Neuter cannot be overlooked as the only true method to control the number of unwanted, abandoned and euthanized animals. We at the HSLC are fearful that instead of being proactive and having animals sterilized, people will simply take their unwanted animals to Animal Services believing they will not be euthanized if not adopted. That simply cannot be the case. The facts are these, for each animal left intact (not sterilized) an average of 8 more are following behind the breeding pair, multiply that by 3 litters a year. The numbers are staggering. Adoption, fostering and rescues cannot possibly keep up with this ever growing number. Won't you please help and have your animal spayed/neutered as soon as 4 months old. Females can become pregnant at 6 months of age.
Although the Spay/Neuter clinic is funded by it's participants, we do have many who for various reasons do not have the funds to pay the $55.00 fee in full or part. When funds are available to us, we are able to help them with these costs. We have fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for this program, often, we do fall short of what is needed . In 2013 we helped approximately 359 animals and their owners make a difference in the number of pets they are able to care for as well as help the overpopulation of unwanted pets. Would you consider making a donation to the HSLC Spay/Neuter Program. Please be sure to specify Spay/Neuter so your donation will be sent to our program. We and many others do appreciate your generosity.
Please feel free to click on the button above where you will be transported to their website.
